Aims and Scope

Energy Systems Planning and Optimization (ESPO) is an international, interdisciplinary journal that aims to advance knowledge and innovation in the planning, analysis, design, and optimization of energy systems. The journal serves as a platform for high-quality research that addresses technical, economic, and environmental aspects of energy systems across multiple scales from components and subsystems to national and global networks.

The journal encourages the submission of original research articles, review papers, and case studies in the following (but not limited to) areas:

  • Strategic and operational planning of energy systems

  • Multi-objective and multi-criteria optimization methods

  • Integration of renewable and hybrid energy sources

  • Smart grid systems and distributed energy networks

  • Energy storage planning and optimization

  • Energy systems modeling and simulation

  • Demand-side management and energy forecasting

  • Application of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and data analytics in energy system planning
  • Environmental and economic assessment of energy systems
  • Policy, regulatory frameworks, and sustainability analysis

The journal welcomes interdisciplinary contributions from fields such as energy engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, operations research, economics, and environmental studies.

Our goal is to support the development of efficient, resilient, and sustainable energy infrastructures that meet future energy demands while minimizing environmental impacts.
